Procrastination Hiation.

Hey guys, I've been on hiatus for several months because of a health issue. For 2 years I have had a very bad back but since January 2013 I've had a prolapsed disc which is pressing on my sciatic nerve and it has been very painful. Of course the doctors are trying to do everything in their power to help... NOT.
I've had a cordial steroid injection in April that delayed the pain for 3 months but since then I've had all sorts of tablets shoved down my neck in an attempt to look like they're doing their job but nothing to actually help me get better.

So now I've had this for a year and it's been a very bad one too. I had to give up dancing, give up going to university and a lot of things I love and I have to admit I've been pretty miserable so I haven't been blogging as I haven't been in the mood for, well, anything really.
Despite having to give up dancing I have found my niche in Criminology and start a Criminology and Psychological studies course with the Open University in February. This has really helped pick up my mood, giving me something to look forward to so I'm back to my reading, creative writing and now I'm trying to get back to my blogging.

Thank you for sticking around while I've been procrastinating! Hopefully I'll be up and running smoothly soon.

The importance of being honest.

I am the biggest hypocrite of them all when it comes to body image. I spout all this stuff like, "be happy in your own skin", "believe you're beautiful", "who cares what you look like, its what's inside that counts" and "you're just wasting time wishing you were someone else."
I say it repeatedly to all my friends who complain about themselves but the worst thing about it is, I never seem to believe any of this myself. Personally I think its all a load of bollocks.

So i'm going to challenge myself and for the next month, see if I'm going to stop thinking negative thoughts, see if I can change my thoughts on body image and focus on the positive. Its all about being honest with yourself. Its about saying, "hey I'm never going to be that celebrity I want to be" because lets face it, we are stuck with ourselves and its about making the most of it, loving our smiles, the sparkle in our eyes and those faults we seem to hate ourselves for. Its time to believe in ourselves, start looking away from the runway, the magazines and the red carpet and embrace our personalities and start loving ourselves for who we really are.

Do I actually see with my very own eyes a man who's not heard of a Jellicle cat?

About a year ago an unknown black cat started wandering through our garden. It was small and unkempt and its presence seemed to put our cats on edge. They would constantly have their back up and their ears down, skulking around the garden with their bodies pressed to the ground.

As we live in the country and on a farm with a huge field we have already had a few run-ins with foxes, (in which one of our cats had its tail and chin torn off by a fox and lived to tell the tale) we like to try and get our cats in at night. So around April the cat started showing up in what we call 'the cat cupboard', where the cat flap is and running as soon as we tried to even get close to it.
This kept happening for a month or so, until we kept finding it in the living room. It was clear it was terrified, appearing to have little to no contact with humans for a long time we came to the conclusion it was a stray but perhaps was attracted to our house as we have 5 cats.
Mum started putting food in the cat cupboard and eventually it started sleeping in there till the morning, then it would leave. This was no Aristocat but there was something about him that made us all fall in love with him and so when he started making a home we were over the moon.

Hobie, such a gorgeous cat and such an important part of our family.

It's taken him a while to stop being jumpy and to get used to fuss but he's gone from a shy little cat with sticky, matted fur to a confident boy who loves the fuss and his 4 brothers and his sister love him. He prances around the house like he owns the place and loves to have fun. When we had him blood tested, where the fur was shaved his skin was covered in scars, so I hate to think what happened in his life but now he's with a family that loves him more than anything and has a happy home full of life and food, which he never seems to want to stop eating. He's the kindest, gentlest stray I've ever seen in my life and the most grateful cat too.

His name is as perfect as he is because he's our little Hobo.

One slow step for Sloth kind

One of the things that not only do I obsess over but I love and am extremely passionate about is Sloths. I have done a lot of research about these beautiful creatures and I thought I'd share a little bit of the information that I've gathered, which you may or may not know about these lovely animals.

Sloths are slow moving mammals that live in the trees of the rain forests. There are two species of Sloths,  Choloepus hoffmani, also known as two-toed Sloth and Bradypus variegates, also known as the three-toed Sloth.

Fun Fact: When you see a greenish coloring on a Sloth, it isn't their real color, it comes from the algae on the trees.

Three-toed Sloth.

Fun fact: Did you know that Sloths go to the toilet once a week? They climb down from their branch (incredibly slowly of course), wrap their arms around a tree and perform a (slow) little dance by wiggling from side to side.

There are a differences between the two toed and three toed sloth other than the number of toes. The three-toed Sloths are more well known for their color, with grey and brown hair and striped bands across the eyes like a mask whereas the two-toed Sloth has a darker blonde to a brown body and a lighter face with brown rings around their eyes.
For Mr two-toes the area around the nose is hairless and longer than its cousins who has a shorter nose. Mr three-toes has arms that are nearly twice as long as his legs, unlike the two-toed who's arms and legs are the same length.Unlike the two-toes, the three-toes have a tail no bigger than 4 inches and also have 9 vertebrate which allows them to turn their head nearly 270 degrees. This allows them to see predators from a much greater scale.

Fun fact: Did you know that two-toed Sloths actually have three toes, however they do have two fingers but they are more commonly known as two-toed, rather than two-fingered.

Unfortunately, when baby Sloths fall out of trees more often than not, the mother will abandon it. On the forest floor it is dangerous for a Sloth, especially as it is so slow. In the trees they do have more advantage due to their main predators residing on the forest floor. Also when Sloth babies have something wrong such as they cannot cling to trees and will keep falling off, the mother will sense this and abandon it.
These poor babies are left to die, however there are sanctuaries to help rehabilitate and rescue them. They help develop their survival skills, which some can be lacking in due to no or little time with their mothers. They also provide a place for Sloths that have lost
their homes due to deforestation.

Sanctuaries like the Sloth Sanctuary in Costa Rica provide homes for these Sloths. Their website is packed with facts and information collected from 1 on 1 study and work with Sloths.
Please check out their website HERE to see what amazing voluntary work these people are doing and learn more about Sloths. If you can, please try and donate to the sanctuary, even giving a little will go along way, its a great cause and goes to saving these gorgeous animals and helping get them back in the wild where they belong.

Many Leaves, One Tree.

If you look up the word 'epic' in the dictionary, the definition you will find is a long poem centered upon a hero. If you look up the word 'epic' in the thesaurus you will find words such as 'heroic', 'brave', 'bigger than life'. 'courageous', 'noble', 'bold' and 'classic' and for me, Epic was all of that and more.

Epic is a computer animated 3D, fantasy adventure film, directed by Chris Wedge, the director of Ice Age and Rio. This Blue Sky Studios production stars Amanda Seyfried, Josh Hutcherson, Colin Farrell, Christopher Waltz and Beyonce Knowles.

When her mother dies, grieving teenager Mary Katherine (Amanda Seyfried) also known as MK, goes to live with her seemingly insane scientist father (Jason Sudeikis) who has sacrificed everything for his belief that their are tiny humans living in the forest.
Meanwhile, deep into the forest in a place called Moonhaven, tiny soldiers called the Leafmen are protecting the forest from Boggans, a pack of evil creatures that live in a rotten wasteland, lead by Mandrake (Christopher Waltz).
For the life of the forest Queen Tara (Beyonce Knowles), her time has come to choose a pod which will become her heir. When MK is shrunk by Tara and given the pod to look after until the moon is at its peak, its time to enforce the help of hunky irish Leafman Ronin (Colin Farrell), our hero and Mary Katherine's love interest, the cute, boyish ex-Leafman Nod  (Josh Hutcherson), an enlarged egoed slug, Mub (Aziz Ansari) and a Leafman loving snail, Grub (Chris O'Dowd) to try and stop Mandrake and the Boggans from capturing the pod, in a fight between good and evil.

From seeing the trailer in the cinema in December 2012, (which you can find here), I have been dying to see the film for 5 months, so when I finally saw it, (and I saw it twice in 2 days) it certainly did not disappoint.

The plot is a classic good vs. evil. The muscly, brave, hummingbird riding Leafmen against the rot-loving, grey skinned Boggans. Though some may call it cliche, when it comes to films I think the classics are the best.
The detail in the CGI was amazing and the shots of the forest were just breath taking. The clothing worn by the two opposing parties were especially detailed, with the Leafmen wearing fresh green plants and leaves as armor, while the Boggans wearing rotten plants and animal skeletons, (sounds gross but it looks very effective).
Not only were the visuals
aesthetically pleasing, the score by Danny Elfman brought the movie to life, giving it the touch it needed.

A film that lived up to my every expection in 2D and 3D, with fun, laughter, romance and adventure aplenty, Epic will definately give you goosebumps, as well as making you remember 'many leaves, one tree; we're all individuals but we're all connected.'

Boa noite bloggers!

Hi guys! As you may tell by the fact this is my first post, i'm fairly new to the blogging scene. I do have a tumblr, which you can find here but its mainly pictures, and I don't often integrate serious texts posts into my page, so this is very different for me.

So, now that is out the way I better introduce myself. I'm Bunny. Well, its not my real name, it's a nickname that my boyfriend gave me. He sees animals in people from looking at their features and it just stuck with me. I really like it and my blog is an opportunity to use it a lot more.

So, i'm Bunny and i'm a Performing Arts student. Unfortunately, this is my last year of college but hopefully in September i'm going on to do a Foundation Degree in Dance. I've technically finished the course so, now I don't have anything to do I thought now would be the perfect time to start a blog and see where it takes me.

The contents of my blog is currently under construction, I haven't got a clue what I'll be posting about yet, it wont be a set blog but I'll hope you'll drop by again soon and visit :)
