Many Leaves, One Tree.

If you look up the word 'epic' in the dictionary, the definition you will find is a long poem centered upon a hero. If you look up the word 'epic' in the thesaurus you will find words such as 'heroic', 'brave', 'bigger than life'. 'courageous', 'noble', 'bold' and 'classic' and for me, Epic was all of that and more.

Epic is a computer animated 3D, fantasy adventure film, directed by Chris Wedge, the director of Ice Age and Rio. This Blue Sky Studios production stars Amanda Seyfried, Josh Hutcherson, Colin Farrell, Christopher Waltz and Beyonce Knowles.

When her mother dies, grieving teenager Mary Katherine (Amanda Seyfried) also known as MK, goes to live with her seemingly insane scientist father (Jason Sudeikis) who has sacrificed everything for his belief that their are tiny humans living in the forest.
Meanwhile, deep into the forest in a place called Moonhaven, tiny soldiers called the Leafmen are protecting the forest from Boggans, a pack of evil creatures that live in a rotten wasteland, lead by Mandrake (Christopher Waltz).
For the life of the forest Queen Tara (Beyonce Knowles), her time has come to choose a pod which will become her heir. When MK is shrunk by Tara and given the pod to look after until the moon is at its peak, its time to enforce the help of hunky irish Leafman Ronin (Colin Farrell), our hero and Mary Katherine's love interest, the cute, boyish ex-Leafman Nod  (Josh Hutcherson), an enlarged egoed slug, Mub (Aziz Ansari) and a Leafman loving snail, Grub (Chris O'Dowd) to try and stop Mandrake and the Boggans from capturing the pod, in a fight between good and evil.

From seeing the trailer in the cinema in December 2012, (which you can find here), I have been dying to see the film for 5 months, so when I finally saw it, (and I saw it twice in 2 days) it certainly did not disappoint.

The plot is a classic good vs. evil. The muscly, brave, hummingbird riding Leafmen against the rot-loving, grey skinned Boggans. Though some may call it cliche, when it comes to films I think the classics are the best.
The detail in the CGI was amazing and the shots of the forest were just breath taking. The clothing worn by the two opposing parties were especially detailed, with the Leafmen wearing fresh green plants and leaves as armor, while the Boggans wearing rotten plants and animal skeletons, (sounds gross but it looks very effective).
Not only were the visuals
aesthetically pleasing, the score by Danny Elfman brought the movie to life, giving it the touch it needed.

A film that lived up to my every expection in 2D and 3D, with fun, laughter, romance and adventure aplenty, Epic will definately give you goosebumps, as well as making you remember 'many leaves, one tree; we're all individuals but we're all connected.'
